Bentivolio Warns Others to Stay Out of MI Race

Posted:

Republican Kerry Bentivolio of milford is warning other candidates not to challenge him in a special election to fill the last two months of recently resigned U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter's term.

Governor Rick Snyder's administration says it will cancel the special election if only one candidate gets in. Holding the election is expected to cost local governments in the 11th District $650,000.

Bentivolio said Monday in a news release he has filed to run. He says if former state GOP Senator Nancy Cassis of Novi gets in, she'll be requiring taxpayers to pick up the tab.

Cassis hasn't yet filed to run. She said Friday the special election is a waste of money and that she might withdraw after Friday's filing deadline if only two candidates are running.
