59 people are injured and 12 are dead after a mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
Police say 24-year-old James Holmes opened fire around 12:30 A.M. (MDT) Friday during the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises".
Witnesses say Holmes let go of a canister that released a hissing noise and gas before opening fire. Others were confused from the gunshots that they thought were sounds coming from a louder movie next door.
Ten of those victims died on the scene, two more died at local hospitals. Many still remain in critical condition.
Officers took Holmes into custody after finding him near a car behind the theater called "Theater 16". Inside, authorities found a gas mask, rifle, handgun and another weapon.
There is no immediate motive behind the shooting but officials are still investigating. Police believe Holmes acted alone.
Aurora, Colorado is located on the southeast outskirts of Denver, about ten minutes from downtown.
