Posted:

Ingham County Sheriff Officials have identified the man who assaulted his wife and barricaded his home Thursday as 55-year-old DeWayne Eugene McKenzie.

It happened around 10a.m. at 6044 Plains Road in Eaton Rapids.

When deputies arrived, McKenzie had barricaded himself in the home waving a baseball bat. His wife told officials over the phone that there were four others inside, including her 4 and 6-year-old grandsons and 18-year-old son. All the hostages were released around 1p.m. unharmed.

McKenzie refused to cooperate with police and threatened to kill himself and his wife. He destroyed most of the house, including windows.

The Michigan State Police ES team later took over for Ingham County including a tanker, continuing to negotiate with McKenzie. McKenzie continued to threaten his own life, as well as officers'.

He was arraigned at the 55th District Court and bond was set at $15,000, where he will remain lodged.
