Grand Ledge Teacher To Stand Trial

A Grand Ledge teacher will stand trial on charges that he had a sexual relationship with two students.

Thirty-two-year-old Jason Algra was a science teacher and the assistant swim coach at Grand Ledge High School until October, 2011.

That's when those allegations came to surface.

Since then, he's been on administrative leave.

Algra now faces eight counts of criminal sexual conduct, three counts in the first degree and five counts in the third degree.

Sitting in court, listening to his two accusers, Grand Ledge teacher Jason Algra was quiet.

"It started off just kissing a lot, and then it went to oral," one victim said.

And the victims say it happened at school as well.

"There was oral sex in the classroom at school. He (victim #1) indicated that there was oral sex performed by both him and the defendant on each other in the showers at school," said Kelly Morton, Eaton County Sr. Assistant Prosecutor.

Morton says that's a breach of trust she says is unthinkable.

"You send them to school every day, trusting that they're going to be in a safe environment, so I think it's difficult for everyone to hear that this kind of activity is taking place with a teacher," Morton said.

As for that teacher, his attorney says he denied all of the accusations.

"It's extremely stressful, it's very, very difficult be he's got a very good family and they were here supporting him today," Defense Attorney Frank Reynolds said.

But the students tell a vivid tale.

"A lot of touching, touching penises and oral," said the second victim.

And when asked if he wanted to come forward about what happened, the second victim said yes, because he doesn't want this to happen to anyone else.

But also, no.

"It was the only time I really felt loved in a sense," the victim said.

But all feelings aside, these are very serious charges, with very serious consequences.
