Fire Breaks Out at Erickson Power Plant


A fire broke out = at the Erickson Power Plant in Delta Township on Canal Road Tuesday evening.

There were no injuries and no outages, according to a Lansing Board of Water and Light spokesperson. The plant remains shut down at this time, but will not affect service.

There were four fire engines - but no smoke or flames visible from the plant.

Crews will continue to look into how long it will take to fix the damage.

According to BWL's website, the Erickson Station was completed in 1973 and contains a single generator capable of producing 159 MW of electricity.

The company also says it was rated one of the most efficient plants of its size in the country.
