Former Teacher Gets Nine Months After Impregnating Student

A 59-year-old former Michigan teacher who authorities say had a sexual relationship with a then-16-year-old student in 2010 has been sentenced to nine months behind bars.

MLive.com reports ex-Saranac High School teacher Krag Sanford was sentenced Tuesday in Ionia Circuit Court. He'll also serve two years of probation.

The man from Kent County's Byron Township was arrested this year after authorities said he had a sexual relationship with the teen. A letter presented earlier in court says he impregnated her this year.

Sanford pleaded no contest in a deal with prosecutors to distributing sexually explicit material to a minor. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

He also faces sentencing Aug. 14 in a related case in Kent County.
