Police: Alcohol A Factor In Williamston Car Crash

Meridian Township police say alcohol may have played a factor in a car crash that injured four people. The accident happened Monday around 4:00 p.m. on Grand River Avenue near Williamston.

Police are releasing few details at this time, but say today they believe alcohol played a factor.

Officers describe the accident as a near "head-on" crash that pinned both drivers inside their cars. Rescuers had to use the "jaws of life" to get the men out.

Police say a 19-year-old Willamstown Township man was driving eastbound on Grand River Avenue when he crossed the median into a left-hand turning lane and hit an oncoming car.

Both men had female passengers with them.

Today 6 News learned the driver of the westbound car is City of Williamston employee Brian Youngs. The City told us he has been with the public works department for about 20 years.

Several ambulances and a helicopter responded to the scene. 6 News is still working on finding out the victims' conditions. Police tell us they expect to have an update Thursday.

6 News will continue to follow this story and bring you more information as it comes into our newsroom.
