The Michigan Department of Education released its 2012 Statewide Report Cards for all schools in the state.

Over 280 schools were named as "Reward Schools" in the report.  That means they are being noted for high student achievement or in making tremendous progress in student achievement.

Reward Schools is one of the three new designations resulting from Michigan receiving flexibility to the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

There are also 146 Priority Schools that need to improve attention on student learning, along with 358 Focus Schools that have wide achievement gaps between the various student populations.

State Superintendent of Public instruction, Mike Flanagan, says the state is committed to closing the achievement gaps in all schools for all students.
