One Michigan soldier killed four others injured in Afghanistan

A Michigan Army National Guard Soldier has been killed and four others from the state have been injured during combat operations in Afghanistan.

Spc. Kyle McClain of suburban Detroit was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated.

McClain's mother told a Detroit radio station that her son wanted to make the military his career.

Four other members of the 1433rd Engineer Company based out of Augusta, MI were "seriously injured" while on the same patrol.

The others have been identified as Staff Sgt. Robert Drebenstedt of Charlevoix, Spec. William Barnett of Ypsilanti, Spec. Steven Nelson of Dollar Bay and Pvt. Joshua Colon of Grand Rapids.

Spc. McClain is the 21st Michigan Guard member killed since 2003.
