People Evacuate Building After Roof Collapse

Posted:

Some workers in a Lansing office got an early start to their weekend after part of the roof caved in.

No one was injured in the incident at 6215 W. St. Joseph. The building is home to the Michigan Health and Hospital Association and the MHA Insurance Company.

The facilities manager of the Verndale building says the cave in apparently caused some pipes to burst, causing water damage to parts of the building not already damaged by the collapse.

No one was injured.

Workers evacuated the building and then were sent home. At least 60 people work at the headquarters of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association. It wasn't immediately clear how many people work on the insurance side. A call to the office says it's closed because of "circumstances beyond their control."

The message says the insurance side should be back to work on Monday.

The association says some people will work remotely while they assess the damage and work on setting up temporary office space.
