Airline Calls Lansing Home - Again

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Allegiant Travel Company announced on Tuesday that it will begin nonstop service from Lansing to Orlando, Fla. starting November 1.

The Las Vegas-based company previously served the Lansing area from 2003 to 2009.

City officials say while the flights will be good for travelers, it will also boost the city's economy. "Number one, it's economic development and jobs. Anytime you're attracting a new airline, a new anything, it means jobs and economic development," says Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "In this economy, that's good news."

Allegiant says it is offering one-way flights for $84.99 through August 21. Flights purchased at that rate must be used by January 13, 2013.

The new flights will operate twice a week between the two cities.
