Police ID Mother & Baby Who Died In "Bizarre Accident"

Meridian Township Police have identified the mother and child who died in what they call a "bizarre accident" over the weekend.

Investigators say it's still not clear what caused 31-year-old Caylen Mae Ottensman to collapse. But they say she fell unconscious on Saturday and accidentally smothered her 6-month-old son Cian.

After responding to a missing persons call, officers found their bodies in the basement of their Haslett home on Saturday night.

Police released a statement on behalf of the family that says "This was an accidental death and a tragic accident.  We ask for love and compassion for all in our community who struggle with the challenges of bipolar disorder."
