ACLU Steps in After Citizen Box Appears on Ballot

Posted:

During the primary election, some citizens claim they did not vote because they refused to check the U.S. Citizen box on the registration form.

Ironically, Governor Rick Snyder had just vetoed having that on the registration form, but GOP Secretary of State Ruth Johnson put it on the form and pledges to keep it there for November.

The Michigan American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has now stepped in for those disenfranchised voters. Kary Moss is urging Secretary Johnson to scrap the box.

"The best thing for her to do is to remove the check box," said Moss. (Reporter) She says she will not. (Moss) Yes, and we are asking her not to. She should do what she can do to maximize voting participation."

Moss is concerned that republicans are on a mission to depress the vote, while the republicans counter they want to eliminate voter fraud.

Unless the Secretary of State removes the check box, some predict more voter confusion in November.
