LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Olympic gold
medal gymnast Jordyn Wieber was welcomed with open arms in her hometown of
DeWitt on Saturday.
The 17-year-old served
as grand marshal of the annual Ox Roast parade, and stuck around afterward to
sign autographs for fans.
"It feels amazing to be back in DeWitt," says Wieber. "I love coming back
to all the support, and just to be in the parade and to pass by all the people
who were cheering me on when I was in London is truly amazing."
DeWitt city officials say they estimate between 7,000 and 8,000 people came to
today's events.
"We can't thank Jordyn enough for the notoriety she's brought to the City
of DeWitt, the DeWitt Township,
the whole DeWitt area," says DeWitt Mayor Jim Rundborg. "It just is phenomenal.
She's a good kid."
Wieber says she'll take the next week to rest, and soon after that, she'll be
back on the road with her Olympic teammates for a 40-city fan tour.
