Fire Destroys Barn, Two Cars

Firefighters say an errant spark from a propane torch is to blame for a fire that destroyed a pole barn and everything inside it on Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. along the 10500 block of Cady Road in Jackson County's Grass Lake Township.

At least three different departments responded to the fire, but flames ripped through the building so quickly that there was little firefighters could do.

Firefighters tell 6 News that the barn's owner was working with the torch when the fire started.

The fire destroyed the barn and two cars that were inside. It also melted some of the siding of the nearby home, but didn't do any significant damage to the house.
