UPDATE: Gas Leak Forces Evacuations

UPDATE: Utility crews have capped the gas leak. The evacuation has been called off. People have return to their homes and businesses and roads in the area have been re-opened.

 

ORIGINAL STORY: Around 100 people have been evacuated from their businesses after construction crews struck a gas line in Lansing.

It happened around 3 p.m. along the 1100 block of South Washington in Lansing.

Firefighters have evacuated everyone in a one block radius as a precaution.

Consumers Energy crews are on the scene to shut the gas off.

Firefighters say construction crews clipped a 2 inch line, sending fumes across the area.

City officials want people to avoid the area south of Main between Elm Street and Gross Court.
