All Lanes Open: U.S. 127 Back To Normal

U.S. 127 returned to normal just ahead of Tuesday's rush hour, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The stretch of highway between Barnes and Kipp Roads near Mason were closed for more than 12 hours on Monday after a tanker truck spilled liquid road sealant all over the highway. The chemical also got into the median on one side of the road and a ditch on the other.

One lane of northbound traffic re-opened on Monday night at around 6 p.m. One lane of southbound traffic re-opened on Tuesday morning around 7 a.m.

But it took another day for crews to remove and replace contaminated soil.

It caused headaches for the people in the 20,000 to 50,000 cars who travel that stretch of road each day, but a Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson says that's what needed to be done.
