Check Fraud Suspect Tased For Charging Officer, Resisting Arrest

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – A 44-year-old Lansing man accused of charging a police officer in a convenience store parking lot after a reported check fraud was arraigned in court on Tuesday.

Officials say on Monday, a worker at Sunset Market in the 600 block of E. Kalamazoo called police to report a man committing check fraud. When police arrived at the scene, they say the suspect, Paul Mollett, tied to leave the store and started walking towards the officer aggressively. Mollett then reportedly charged the officer, causing both to fall in the parking lot.

The officer then Tased the suspect, who still resisted arrest. Officials say once several bystanders helped the officer, the suspect was able to be handcuffed.

Mollett faces charges on forgery, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.

His bond was set at $5,000.
