Some Lansing firefighters laid off last year may soon be back to work.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero wrote a letter to city council members asking them to consider transferring funds from a federal grant.
The $2.3 million "Safer Grant" would allow the city to re-hire eight firefighters.
In 2011, 11 firefighters were laid off due to budget cuts. Three have already been brought back under a separate grant.
The city council is expected to read Bernero's letter Thursday.
