Vandal Spray Paints State Capitol and Veterans Memorial

The State Capitol and Veterans Memorial on the Capitol lawn were vandalized Thursday morning and Michigan State Police are looking for the person responsible.

Blue spray paint with a drawing of a face and the words "Give Art a Chance" were written on the back of the memorial.

State police say they noticed the vandalism around 4a.m.

The paint has not been easy to get off. 6 News took the attached pictures after crews used three coats of paint remover. Two stick figured were also sprayed on two pillars on the Capitol steps.

A man interning at the Capitol noticed the graffiti. He has family in the military and says he takes personal offence to this.

"I feel like I've been hit in the gut with a 2x4. I mean, it's like how I take offense to someone burning the flag. Celebrate being a Michigander," said Spencer Austin who was offended by the graffiti.

State Police are hoping surveillance video will help track down those responsible.
