TMSG: Stand Up to Cancer

Posted:

The entire country will "Stand Up to Cancer" Friday night for a special telethon.

"Don't give up." Words that became the motto for Pam and Jeff Frayer of Bellevue after Pam received an unexpected diagnosis that changed their lives two years ago.

"The most aggressive form of brain cancer," remembers Jeff.

"I just didn't know where it was supposed to go," said Pam. "Made me very weak (transfusions all the time). Transfusions, and you know, it was just one thing after another."

From daily visits to Sparrow Hospital, to countless hours of chemo, to finally brain surgery, Pam experienced all of the challenges, doubts and fears cancer can create. But she also had plenty of support and motivation to stay strong and stand up to cancer.

"I had a grandbaby on the way at that time. It was too important to just give up," said Pam.

Her story is just one of many being featured during a special nationwide telethon, fittingly called "Stand Up to Cancer." It brings together celebrities, entertainers and everyday people like Pam and Jeff in the same fight.

For the Frayers, the end of cancer is in sight.

"This medicine, the avastin, has worked fantastically. We haven't noticed any side effects and the tumors have shrunk right up," said Jeff.

That means Pam can get back to the things that matter most.

"I've been babysitting for the grandkids a few times and I've got three schnauzer dogs I take care of. I feel great," said Pam.

What a feeling to have, especially after standing up to cancer.
