A community comes together to honor fallen soldiers
As Grand Ledge High School took the field against Sexton High School on Friday night, they did so wearing different names, the names of fallen Michigan soldiers.
It was early August, 2010, when Melinda Soule got a call from her sister.
Melinda Soule, Bradley Rappuhn's Aunt: "I started screaming at my husband telling him that Bradley was killed."
Bradley was just 24 years old and on his first deployment when it happened.
Soule: "He was the sawgunner and he was behind his sergeant. They were out at night and they were going through some woods."
And in a flash,an IED changed this family's life forever.
Soule: "Bradley died about 4 hours later on the operating table."
But Friday night, as gray skies hang overhead, Bradley Rappuhn is alive.
With each player wearing the name of a fallen Michigan soldier, this event is about remembering.
Soule: "He was easygoing and he would just light the room up when he came in, always had jokes, always cracking jokes. I mean, there's not a day that don't go by that we don't shed a tear or think about him."
But Friday night, everyone in the stands was thinking about him too; Bradley and his fellow men.
Soule: "He is our American hero, he's out true American hero."
