Lansing Apartment Red Tagged

Posted:

Dozens of people were forced from their South Lansing apartment Sunday after the city said the complex was unlivable. Now, some of them get to return home.

Lansing Police say the Arlington Apartment Complex on Richwood Street was red tagged because of sewage back ups, which made for unsanitary living conditions.

Some of those displaced say even though they're back home, they're not happy with management. Officials say people had been complaining of raw sewage and water inside their apartments. Some say the problem was so bad, firefighters and police officers had to help with evacuations. It then escalated to the health department, who stepped in putting pressure on the landlord to get the apartments up to code.

The landlord refused to talk to us on camera. All she would say is that the problem has been fixed.

A BWL worker on the scene marking water lines Monday says their workers won't be doing any work until Tuesday. Meanwhile, the city says the apartments are back up to code and residents are free to move back in.
