There are several events taking place here in Mid-Michigan to honor and remember those that lost their lives on September 11th, eleven years ago.
The City of Lansing will host a program at 8:30a.m. at Wentworth Park, where for the last 10 years, a piece of the world trade center has rested.
A tree planting ceremony in honor of 9-11 will be held at 9:30a.m. in front of the Ingham County Building on S. Cedar St.
The Michigan International Speedway will hold its annual Spirit of America, to honor and remember victims and heroes of 9-11. Events will begin at 9a.m. and will last until 8p.m. Several different activities are planned throughout the day. Guests are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the CCIS Food Pantry.
The annual "Mason Cares," hosted by Dart Bank and Mortgage Company will be held at the James M. Pelton Memorial Fire Station on Ash Street in Mason. It will run 1p.m. - 7p.m. There will be a memorial service starting at 7p.m. The event will honor those that fell on 9-11, as well as local police and fire departments and rescue personnel.
AmeriCorps will have a special flag raising ceremony at the United Way off N. Jackson Street in Jackson at 5p.m. to recognize military veterans and their families.
The American Legion Post 228 of Holt will hold a 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Holt 9-11 Memorial Monument. The '9-11 Hero Run' will begin at 6:15p.m. behind the Delhi Township Fire department.
Michigan House lawmakers will also honor those that lost their lives with a special ceremony. Many lawmakers are inviting first responders from their districts to participate in the memorial. The ceremony also honors all Michigan police, fire and emergency medical technicians who protect and serve residents every day.
