Mid-Michigan Survivor Remembers 9-11

Posted:

A Mid-Michigan man was one of those who escaped from the World Trade Center 11 years ago and says he will never forget that day.

Patrick Anderson was staying in a hotel at the World Trade Centers when the first plane hit. He remembers making it down from his room to a frantic lobby, running through blocks of panic and chaos and then hiding behind a dumpster as a wall of smoking came pouring down around him.

"I think of it as extra time God gave me to be on the earth," said Anderson.

Time that he's now using to pay tribute to the 24 people from Michigan who died in the attacks that fateful day. Anderson says remembering them was the reason he started the Michigan Remembers 9-11 Fund. He helps raise money to make sure the name of every Michigan Victim of 9-11 is engraved on a brick at the Lansing Memorial downtown by the Capitol.

He says the memories of the attack will always stay with him, but it's important to also keep in perspective the time he still has, especially spending it with his family.

"I certainly want to see my kids grow up. I want to be a good father and husband and a good leader in this community. But I also want to remember those who didn't come back," said Anderson.
