Serena Williams in Michigan Women's Hall of Fame

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Saginaw-born tennis star Serena Williams is among eight members of the 2012 class of the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.

The group said Tuesday that it's honoring the inductees at its 29th annual dinner October 18 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.

Also being inducted is Gladys Beckwith of Lansing, founder of the Michigan Women's Studies Association and the Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame.

The other living inductees are ex-Michigan Corrections Director Patricia Caruso of Sault Ste. Marie, environmental activist Mary Jane Dockeray of Grand Rapids and women's rights advocate Judith Karandjeff of Lansing.

Dead inductees are Dr. L. Anna Ballard of Lansing, state Sen. McCall Hamilton of Grand Rapids and African American clubwoman Mary E. McCoy of Detroit.
