Congressman: 'Middle East Will Only Get Worse'

Posted:

U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers, the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, says the problems in the Middle East are only going to get worse.

Congressman Rogers says that whoever wins the election in November, is going to have to deal with this mess. But he believes now would be the perfect time for President Obama to start talking about foreign policy, something he hasn't really done in a couple years. Rogers says that is going to be the key to get better cooperation.

He says we need to get a very clear Middle East policy in place and draw some hard lines about what the U.S. expects from foreign governments. There's been some debate over whether these attacks have been spontaneous, but Congressman Rogers says he believes everything has been pre-planned, that the anti-islamic film is just adding fuel to the fire for a bigger marketing campaign.

"These are groups that are trying to find any reason they can to insight violence, it's not because of the film, it's because of all the other issues, political, cultural, religious, tribal in some cases, and terrorists who are trying to commit acts of violence to their political end," said Congressman Rogers.

When asked him about safety here now, he said we're as safe as we can be. Right now the U.S. is taking every necessary precaution to make sure that all the security is met overseas.
