DNR Wants Rule Changes for Muskellunge, Pike

Posted:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants to change regulations for catching two types of fish -- muskellunge and northern pike.

The DNR says the changes would improve opportunities to pursue the fish.

Under the revised policy, anglers could keep only one muskellunge per season instead of one per day. Muskellunge anglers would have to get a harvest tag from a license dealer and affix it to the fish they intend to keep.

For northern pike, existing limits on number and sizes anglers could keep would remain on most of Michigan's lakes. There would be some changes for lakes with stunted pike populations.

A final decision on the rules will be announced at the October 11 meeting of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission meeting in Ontonagon.
