Six local fire departments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start working toward Automatic Mutual Aid.
The Lansing, East Lansing, and Lansing, Meridian, Delta and Delhi Township Fire Departments all participated in a study to weigh the benefits of a full or partial merger or mutually beneficial agreement between them which led to the signing. This step is the first in hoping to strengthen collaboration among the departments. It will allow them to operate in a more seamless and efficient fashion and to provide enhanced service to the region.
The MOU also establishes a three-committee organizational structure that will consist of appointed and elected officials, fire chiefs, union leadership and representatives of the private sector.
