Gas Alert: Prices See Sharp Jump Up

Posted:

Gas prices have taken a sudden jump back up near the $4 mark.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.91, 3 cents higher than Tuesday's average. But gas has been spotted across the area for $3.99.

It's sparked by competition, especially for one chain that has over 1,000 stations nationwide.

"They're the first to raise their prices, then the first to lower prices, thus stealing volume at a higher price and that's just the way the market works and the cheating takes place at every retailer until the point of where stations are no longer making money," said Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy.com.
