Men Rob Gas Station, Witness Follows After Them

Posted:

Police say 22-year-old Nicholas Christ and 20-year-old Jacob Laraway used a shotgun to rob a Dansville gas station Monday morning.

It all happened around 5:30 Monday morning.

We talked with the store owners who say they saw it all happen on surveillance video.

Early Monday morning, Sue Vandouser got a call.

Sue Vandouser, Store Owner: "My clerk called and said she'd been robbed and she was pretty upset."

That's when she checked the security tape and saw two men with a shot gun, threatening her cashier.

A scene she and her husband call horrifying.

Sue Vandouser: "They pushed in the door, pushed one of my customers across the floor - came behind the counter and was very verbal with my cashier on giving them the money."

Jonathan Vandouser: "I feared for their lives, I really did."

But what happened next wasn't captured on tape, that customer inside got into his car and followed the two men as they took off.

Gene Wrigglesworth, Ingham County Sheriff: "I think that he was as offended as most of us are by those kinds of things and decided he wanted to do something about it."

He followed them until the men stopped their car and turned the gun on him.

The customer left unharmed, but shaken up.

Jonathan Vandouser: "I talked to him and he was pretty upset about it and he wanted to get em too."

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wrigglesworth says the pair made off with less than 100 dollars, some snacks and a day old newspaper.

Wrigglesworth: "Their timing wasn't all that great but these guys aren't going to get awards for rocket science either."

While neither has a criminal history, the sheriff says they could face serious time.

Wrigglesworth: "Armed robbery is a life offense in Michigan, this is really really serious stuff."

Sue Vandouser: "I'm just glad that she's safe and the customer is safe and everything is ok today."

Both men are in jail on $250,000 bonds. They're due back in court on October 4th.
