Police responded to an armed robbery at a Shell gas station early Tuesday morning, when they passed a vehicle being driven by a man matching the description of the suspect.
It happened at the station on the corner of Waverly and Old Lansing Road around 4a.m.
An officer stopped the vehicle a few blocks north of the Shell station and the driver fled on foot. 18-year-old Jayland Michael McKellar of Delta Township was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. He was found with a bag of cash and had used a stolen car and gun in the robbery, as well. Several items from a recent home invasion were located inside of the vehicle.
McKellar was charged with:
- Armed robbery
- Felony firearm
- Resisting police
- Possession of a stolen firearm
Additional charges of home invasion and UDAA are expected at a later date.
The preliminary exam is scheduled for October 5, but he is being held without bond.
