Hackers Jam Online Banking


There is a lot of speculation buzzing about hackers in the Middle East, who are thought to be behind a string of online bank scams this week. It's believed to be Islamists taking revenge for an anti-Muslim film which sparked violent protests acrossed the Middle East.

Here's a list of the banks:

  • JP Morgan Chase
  • Citi-Group
  • Bank of America 
  • Wells Fargo 
  • PNC 

They experienced disruptions after their sites were overwhelmed by unusually high amounts of traffic. Mike Smith, with Web security company Akamai, said Friday that the attacks delivered around three tiems the amount of traffic typcially used by criminals to jam e-commerce websites.

The hackers are threatening there's more to come.

In an online post, they say this cyber attack isn't to get your information: it's political. They say it's linked to the anti-Islam film that sparked deadly protests across the Muslim World.
