Senate Honors Subject of Apparent School Prank

Posted:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Senate has honored a mid-Michigan girl named to her high school homecoming court as part of an apparent prank.

The Senate welcomed 16-year-old Whitney Kropp Wednesday and presented her with a tribute signed by lawmakers and Governor Rick Snyder. The student at West Branch's Ogemaw Heights High School was joined by her family.

Kropp has said she felt betrayed after some students suggested her selection was a joke. Her story sparked national interest, and last month West Branch-area residents and business owners came to her school's homecoming football game to support her as she took her place on the court.

Kropp was a guest of Midland Republican Senator John Moolenaar. He says she has "demonstrated poise beyond her years" and is an "example for us all."
