Mortgage Foreclosures Drops Again in Jackson

Posted:

There are some positive signs in the housing market, after the number of mortgage foreclosures across Jackson County went down last year and is on track to be lower again this year.

Jackson numbers are now the lowest they've been in three years. Back in 2009, the number of sheriff's deeds recorded was just under 1,000. In 2010, there were about 80 more. Then last year, it dipped back down to 945. Through September of 2012, there have been just over 600 and if that stays constant, that will put the end of the year total below that in 2011. Most are actually coming from the city--totaling around 260.

Officials say there are lots of different reasons why the numbers are going down and while it's not a huge decrease, they're just happy to see some positive signs.

"The biggest reason the numbers are changing is because lenders are more willing to work with borrowers. And borrowers have numerous opportunities to work with lenders either on their own, or with the local non-profits or the government programs that are out there available to them," said Beth Ploof, EECU Mortgage Originator.
