UPDATE: Howell Woman Returns to Hospital Due to Meningitis

Posted:

A woman just released from the hospital after contracting fungal meningitis was just suddenly rushed back to the ER Tuesday afternoon. 46-year-old Brenda Bansale was discharged from St. Joseph's hospital in Ann Arbor Saturday.

After three days at home, her lawyer Marc Lipton says she needed more medical attention.

Bansale spent a little more than two weeks at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

She's now suing the Massachusetts company accused of making the tainted medication she received from a Brighton Clinic in August for treatment of back pain. That medication is suspected of causing a nationwide meningitis outbreak. So far, 23 people in the United States have died from the infection, five of them from Michigan.

Bansale isn't the only person suing the company. There are numerous lawsuits across the nation. New ones surfaced this week, including here in Michigan.

We'll have details coming up on 6 News.
