HOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a medical emergency led to an August crash that killed a wrong-way driver and two other motorists following a collision on Interstate 96 in Livingston County.
The sheriff's department says an eastbound pickup driven by a 54-year-old George Tissen of Fowlerville crossed the median Aug. 12 into the westbound lanes and collided with a car.
WHMI-FM reports Tissen had a heart condition. The sheriff's department says results of toxicology tests showed no trace of drugs or alcohol in his system.
The people in the car were from the Grand Rapids-area community of Wyoming. The sheriff's department says 57-year-old driver Legrand Bloomstine was injured. The department says the driver's wife, 49-year-old Susan Bloomstine, died at a hospital and 80-year old Charles Wright also died in the crash.
