Meningitis Numbers Continue to Rise Across U.S.

Posted:

The Center for Disease Control has released new numbers in the deadly meningitis outbreak. Since yesterday, there are 10 new cases across the country and one more death.

The total now rises to nearly 340 people infected with the tainted steroid and 24 deaths. Meanwhile, Michigan cases remain the same with just over 80 cases and 6 deaths.

The outbreak comes from contaminated steroid shots made from a pharmacy in Massachusetts. That facility has also shipped out other medications to clinics and hospitals across the country, including Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Hospital officials are saying patients who may have taken other medication from that pharmacy should not be at risk for illness. But if some do experience any problems with their treatment officials recommend they call their doctor or Sparrow Pharmacy at 517-364-0742.
