The Red Cross Mid-Michigan Chapter is sending volunteers and half their emergency vehicles to the east coast.
The local chapter deployed 15 people to the east coast over the weekend. They're helping to set up emergency shelters. They're planning to send more volunteers and emergency vehicles, but not until Wednesday due to canceled flights from the storm.
"In the aftermath, they'll go out and they'll look for people who didn't leave, and now don't have enough water or need to be transported. So in a way it's a ray of hope," said alison bono with the mid-michigan red cross.
More than anything, the Red Cross says right now, they're in need of blood donations, specifically type O negative, but the chapter is asking for all eligible blood donors to step it up. They're currently taking appointments for donations at the clinic.
The chapter is also taking monetary donations. They say any help to replenish supplies and fund rescue workers is welcome.
