Social Media Questions Answered on Highway Shootings

Posted:

It's now been exactly two weeks since the serial shootings began along some Mid-Michigan roads. There have been 25 shootings in total and one person has been hurt. However, officials still do not have anyone in custody.

With questions mounting, 6 News went to Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth to get some of your social media answers.

Amanda K Wilkins: Do they even have any leads as to who it is?

"We have a number of leads. We have over 640 tips, many of them have been sifted through, but they keep coming in. We will continue to work on those and hopefully we can get a pearl out of one those that's going to lead us to this person," said Wriggelsworth.

Kasey Ann: Are there more police stationed in this part of the expressway?

"Yesterday we received authorization to spend more overtime money so we're going to have deputies patrolling in that area, strictly on overtime, 10 hours a day, starting yesterday [Monday]."

Jamie Cole: Do they think it's just one person, or someone copying the shooter?

"We believe the first 23 were one person because we can forensically link most of those, not all of them but most of them, and they happened in close proximity to each other. The two unsaid still remains to be seen because we haven't been able to recover evidence that we can compare to the other ones. Although it would be a great coincidence if they weren't but it is possible that there is a copycat out there."
