HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man whose wife died in the national meningitis outbreak has been released from a hospital where he was treated for the same illness.
George Cary of Howell tells The Associated Press that he's "much improved" but still taking medication and focusing on regaining his strength. He says he was discharged from an Ann Arbor hospital Sunday.
His wife Lilian Cary died on Sept. 30. The Carys were treated for pain at a Brighton-area clinic, which used steroids made by a Massachusetts pharmacy. Contaminated steroids have been linked to a national wave of meningitis, including 62 cases in Michigan. Eight state residents have died.
The 65-year-old Cary didn't become ill until Oct. 19. He was diagnosed with meningitis at a Florida hospital and returned to Michigan last week.
