Mt. Pleasant Church Reacts To Pastor's Arrest

John Douglas White's run in with the law was not his first, the 55 year old has criminal records that date back to 80's.

"He had a case out of 1981, an assault with the intent to do murder case, a case out of Calhoun county," said Department of Corrections Administrator Russ Marlan.

It put him behind bars for two years, but a decade later, in 1995, he struck again.

At the time, The Kalamazoo Gazette reported he was charged with murdering 26 year old Vicky Sue Wall, but because the body was so badly decomposed, he plead guilty to manslaughter.

He was released without parole in February of 2007, the longest the state could keep him.

"Either the parole board saw something, that they didn't want to let him go any earlier than they possible could or his behavior in prison is poor," Marlan said.

White would eventually relocate to Christ Community Fellowship in 2009 to become the church's pastor.

"It isn't the man I know, everybody loved him I'm floored," said one Church Elder.

An elder of the church who didn't want to be identified said in the near 3 years White preached there, he never showed any signs of being a criminal.

"He admitted in his youth that he was pretty wayward, but he found the Lord and I followed his preaching it was right from the Bible."

And after hearing White's history, she says it will certainly hurt the church, but one can only push forward to the future.

"It will pass, this too shall pass the Bible says and it will."

Leaving time to decide the fate of both the church and White.

The church says they are going to have service as scheduled on Sunday.
