One Week Until Art Museum Is On Full Display

If you've traveled down Grand River Avenue in East Lansing recently you've probably noticed  the eye catching unique design of the new Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum.

The grand opening of the latest building on MSU's campus is just one week away.

From the outside in, curator Alison Gass says the Eli-Edythe Broad Art Museum is like stepping into two different worlds.

"It looks very different on the inside then it does on the outside, it's very bright and sunlight," Gass said.

Though Gass says the years of planning have been rough, it's rewarding to see a vision come to life.

"It is so gratifying to be standing in a space that looks so dramatic, feels so spectacular and is just coming together in just the ways that we imagined that it would," Gass said.

"The project tells the story about how people are using what's in the landscape to make themselves at home," said artist Fritz Haeg.

Haeg says he is honored to have his piece of art lay within the broad museum.

"It's so exciting to have it in this really in this profoundly important piece of architecture, that's very angular,

I mean it has a very particular aesthetic to it that is a brilliant contrast to the rug," Haeg said.

Artist Fritz Haeg says the building is a perfect example of art, how it contrasts the other buildings around campus, much like the pieces inside the museum.

"It sends a message that something important and different is happening here, it says this is a place for art, this is a place you go for some profoundly different experience than what's available anywhere else."

An experience that will soon be on display for all of East Lansing to see and explore.

The museum dedication will take place next Saturday. The official opening to the public is set for 10am next Sunday morning.
