Donald Sutter Junior was charged with second-degree murder in June for the death of Travis Peterson. If convicted, Sutter faces life in prison.
Peterson was found beaten outside of Brannigan Brother's in downtown Lansing. Witnesses say Peterson kept repeating he "didn't want any trouble." One witness described the victim's beating similar to "a piece of meat."
"We anticipate about a two-week trial, with extensive testimony from witnesses as well as doctors. It's gonna be a long case," said Ingham County Assistant Prosecutor Bill Crino.
Crino says witness testimonies will begin tomorrow.
The other man charged in the case, Austin Smith, is set for trial in January.
