Okemos native, New York University student affected by Sandy

Sam Chappelle came home to Okemos, Michigan after his experiences with the super-storm Sandy. Chappelle is a sophomore at New York University, in Manhattan, New York. He was located in the hardest hit part of Manhattan during the storm.

He looked out his dorm room window in the east end of town to see what he described was a "massive green flash", that lit up the sky. The power then went out in the dorm. They also had no phone signal to be able to contact anyone.

Four days without power, Chappelle and his three friends made their way to Brooklyn. They stayed in a hotel for a couple days, sharing only one bed, until they were told to evacuate.

After a weekend home, Chappelle has headed back to school in Manhattan. He leaves with a bit of experience and caution to help him weather the next storm.
