An unexpectedly early call, President Barack Obama has been re-elected to serve another four years.
AP is calling the presidential election for Obama after Romney lost Ohio and several other key states.
The Chicago convention center where Obama supporters have gathered to watch the results is exploding in joy and enthusiasm. Not so the Romney camp in Boston, which has been muted as results increasingly showed the tally of electoral votes rising in Obama's column.
Romney is conceding that his hard-fought presidential bid has ended in failure. He told supporters in Boston that he gave it his all and that he is now praying that President Barack Obama will be successful in guiding the nation.
Obama thanked his supporters on Twitter saying, 'We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned.'
