WWII Veterans Honored With Keys to the City

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Veterans Day may be Sunday, but it's not too early to celebrate those who've served our country.

Two local world war two veterans were honored with keys to the city of Lansing Saturday. It was all part of the Capital Area Veterans Day ceremony at Pattengill Auditorium in Lansing.

Mayor Virg Bernero presented George Jessie Taylor and Eugene Blyel with the awards.

The keynote speaker, Brigadier General Mike Stone told 6 News the ceremony is a chance to honor all of our veterans.

"Today's about honoring all veterans. We've got these quiet heroes of past generations that are part of our community that it's great that the city can recognize them," said Stone. I always ask on days like today, for people just to not only thank a veteran to but ask what they did."

Lansing was chosen by the Office of Veteran Affairs in Washington DC as one of 62 cities to be highlighted with this type of Veterans Day celebration.
