Mother Accused of Killing Infant Heads to Trial

Amber Murphy was bound over to Circuit Court on an Open Murder charge. She is accused of killing her 9-month old son, Seth, in August 2009.

Now 8-year-old Aiden Nugent, another one of Murphy's children, testified Tuesday, along with the medical examiner, one of Amber's cell mates from the county jail and the detective who's been on the case since 2009.

The son said Murphy came in the bedroom, heard a banging noise and then the baby quit crying.

When her cell mate took the stand, it was clear that Murphy had changed her story about what happened several times.

There was also an audio recording of a conversation between Murphy and one of her friends who was wearing a wire, which the judge said her words showed some degree of fault. In it, she says, "I'm looking at the fact that I probably will get 5-10 years for manslaughter. And my life is destroyed."

The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. A broken baseball bat was found at the home and the Medical Examiner says it's possible that it was used to hurt the baby.
