Lansing Hostess Shop to Close Monday

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Clerks at the Wonder Hostess Bakery Outlet near Pennsylvania Avenue and Miller Road in Lansing tell 6 News the shop is set to close for good Monday at 5 p.m. or until it runs out of products.

Saturday, store shelves were near empty as a steady stream of people rushed to get their favorite snacks before it all disappeared.

Signs on the outside of the store say the shop is going out of business, that all must go, and that everything inside is 50 percent off.

One Lansing woman left spent $152 dollars on bread and snacks for her seven kids. A bargain compared to the $300 she would've spent if she paid full price.

6 News is told employees will restock the shelves at the Lansing shop Saturday night. The store will be open Sunday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. or until it runs out of products.

Clerks at the Wonder Hostess Bakery Outlet in Jackson located on the 3700 block of Ann Arbor Rd. say they plan to close for good sometime Monday too.

This all comes after the Hostess Brands CEO announced Friday that the company is shutting down and laying off more than 18,000 workers nationwide. Hostess Brands, which filed for bankruptcy, blames the closure on the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union for initiating a nationwide strike that crippled the company's ability to produce and deliver products.
