Man Arraigned for December 2011 Murder

A man has been charged with open murder from December 2011. Robinson was indicted in a secret hearing before a one man grand jury, which is rare.

Todd Robinson was arraigned in Circuit Court Tuesday morning for the murder of 18-year-old Eshaum Gant. Judge Thomas Wilson ordered he be held in jail without a bond. There will be no pre-trial and the case will go directly to court.

A process that only happenes in Michigan, a grand one man jury is designed to secure testimony from reluctant witnesses.

"This is not something we use routinely. I think we've used it three times in the 10 years I've been here. Each time it's been very successful," said Hank Zavislak, Jackson County Prosecutor.

Gant died last Christmas Eve after he was shot in the head. He had just graduated from Jackson High School.

"You get happy, and then you're right back sad again. I mean, I'm happy that they caught him. And I'm happy that justice is going to be served. But, he's gone, and it's not going to bring him back," said Tienika Rochester, the victim's mother. "His birthday is December 1st. And Thanksgiving is coming, and he's not here with us. So, it's been really rough. And it probably will be like that for the rest of our lives."
